Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

Lace up your running shoes for a fast-paced flat race through the Cape’s historic CBD

Discover why you should run this marathon, half marathon or fun run in a quaint valley.

---

Runners will hit the streets of the Mother City for the 2015 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, a fast and furious race known for its flat terrain, unique city centre route and scenic views on Sunday, 20 September 2015 (other subsidiary runs will take place on Saturday, 19 September 2015).

Established in 2007, the Cape Town Marathon was intended to provide first-time runners with a feasible race – devoid of steep hills and unnecessary turns – and to aid more experienced runners in achieving fast times, so as to qualify for the Comrades and the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.

“Young or old, professional or amateur; the Mother City welcomes you and invites you to be part of this year’s historic Cape Town Marathon,” says Elana Meyer, South African Olympic medalist and Ambassador for the Cape Town Marathon.

Runners can either sign up for the 42.2-km or 10-km race, which will dash from the starting line at the Green Point A track in Green Point. Participants in the 42.2-km race have 7 hours to complete the race, and participants in the 10-km race will have two hours in which to cross the finish line; the allocated period gives even walkers enough time to complete both events.

Not just for the serious competitor looking to bolster their times, the Cape Town Marathon also offers a number of offshoots that cater to all levels of fitness; there are 11-km and 22-km trail runs as well as a 4.2-km fun run.

What’s more, friends, family and supporters can join in the celebration at the finishing line with runners at the supporter zone where the prize-giving will take place; there will also be a number of food stalls, a beer garden, a runners’ expo and live music!

Last year, the record times were broken for both the mens' and womens' events. Willy Kibor Koitile (Kenya) finished in 2h 10m 45s, and Meseret Biru (Ethiopia) completed the marathon in 2h 30m 57s.
