Tuesday Date Night Special To Wine and Dine Her
This Parisian-inspired steakhouse is top class
Candlelight, 32-day, wet-aged, top-cut sirloin, a crisp salad, skinny fries and a glass of wine at an intimate table for two – does this not sound like the perfect date night? Parisian-style steak restaurant HQ, set in accessible Heritage Square, hosts Premium Date Night every Tuesday evening, and it’s a classy and affordable dining out experience.
The venue has many seating options: if it’s a cool Cape Town night, opt for a seat near the fireplace, or be seated in the buzzy fine-dining restaurant area.
CAP CLASSIQUE, 250G SIRLOIN AND WINE
No matter the occasion, the only rule here is that everything is served in pairs. For R450 each partner is treated to a welcome glass of Cap Classique to ease you into the main deal: a 250g 32-day, wet-aged, top-cut sirloin steak each, served with a crisp cos and iceberg lettuce salad, with toasted pine nuts, parmesan shavings and a Dijon mustard vinaigrette. This also comes topped with the signature Café de Paris butter sauce and skinny fries, and there’s a glass of red wine to boot.
For a sweet finish pick from a selection of desserts for R48 each. It includes, a deconstructed cheesecake (with caramel, miso ice cream, crumble, maca and gold leaf) and a dark chocolate fondant (with coco-nib dust, sea salt and vanilla-amasi ice cream).
While you're sharing your dessert, why not also share your experience on Instagram using the hashtag #HQDateNight.
WITH FRANK SINATRA, MICHAEL BUBLE FOR MUSIC
The atmosphere is set by Cape Town-based swing singer Ricky Botsis, who sings Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé and Dean Martin crooners, just perfect for a Premium Date Night. And the interior is perfect: chic but unpretentious, soft lighting, and on Tuesdays tables are made up with romance in mind.
THE FOOD BRINGS PEOPLE BACK TO HQ
HQ is devoted to serving simple food, prepared well, and gained popularity for exactly this: no-fuss, full-flavoured gourmet steaks. It also serves a selection of tapas, available to diners seated in the cosy lounge area by the fireplace or in the open-air courtyard festooned with fairy lights.
The selection ranges from Saldanha Bay Oysters (with a citrus mignonette and orange segments), Crispy Patagonian Calamari (with garlic mayo, peanut oil, chilli, lime and tempura celery) or the Foraged Wild Mushrooms (with blue cheese, biscuit crumble, pea shoots and truffle oil) – all delicious and a great starter to the steaks, if you have the appetite. Tip: HQ’s tapas are charged at half-price on a Thursday.
