End Your Weekend On A High Note At Sotano
Five hours of non-stop live music by two amazing local acts
Patrons describe Sotano in Mouille Point as easy and relaxed, that’s why every day is like Sunday at the restaurant. So how is it planning to make Sundays feel even more easy? With a music series called the Sunday Sunset Sessions – five hours of music from the talented live music duo Acoustic Element and reggae legends The Rivertones.
2 BANDS, 5 HOURS: HERE’S HOW IT WILL WORK
The Rivertones will kick off the music marathon with a three-hour set (2pm-5pm) of classic reggae from UB40 such as Red Red Wine and Bob Marley favourites like One Love and No Woman No Cry. Lead by founding member Roland Nair, who has jammed with The Wailers (Bob Marley’s band) and played in over 15 countries, this reggae ensemble were also recently invited by the government of Madagascar to perform at awareness concerts across the island.
Acoustic Element takes over from 5pm to 7pm with a range of covers from pop and rock to jazz and smooth ballads. Cousins Callen Petersen and Jody Abel match acoustic guitar with a violin, plus vocals and playful beatboxing. They bring down the house whenever they play, and have played with local acts such as Chad Saaiman, Jimmy Nevis and Auriol Hays, among others.
THE SOTANO EXPERIENCE
Sotano means “cellar” in Spanish and it delivers on that promise: it has a combined selection of close to 80 reds, whites and bottles of bubbly and an assortment of nearly 40 different wines by the glass. You can cap off your weekend with something more unconventional from their cocktail list that includes a generously portioned mojito, packed with fresh mint and lime juice.
The food is good, too, and includes simple, uncomplicated fare from bite-sized tapas, such as pan-seared scallops, patatas bravas or grilled chicken satay to a full, flavourful Sunday dinner menu such as grilled fish with salsa verde and tuna nicoise salad.
