An Affordable Summer Food Adventure In The Karoo

African Relish is the Karoo getaway with a cooking school, deli, Chef's Café and rustic and luxurious self-catering cottages. Friends, couples and family with kids who love connecting around an activity and over a shared meal should also take advantage of their summer special.

A COUPLE’S OF FAMILY OF 4’S SPECIAL
Book the summer special for two adults, which includes two nights accommodation, a half-day cooking course with lunch or dinner, and a recipe book all for R2 050pp (usually costs R2470pp).

Or a family summer special, which includes two nights’ accommodation for two adults and two children, in the two-bedroom cottage, a half-day cooking class with lunch or dinner, and a recipe book at R5950 in total (usually R6995). Both specials end in February 2020.

A SIZZLING SUMMER SPECIAL
African Relish has four cottages in the simple style and architecture of the Karoo, sleeping from two to four people. The interiors are beautifully designed with influences from artist JP Meyer, Jacques Erasmus of Hemelhuijs restaurant in Cape Town and the Keys, and they’re a wonderfully cool escape from the Karoo heat. All cottages are self-catering and are fully equipped with everything you’ll need.

TAKE AN AWARD-WINNING COOKING LESSON
The African Relish cooking school is at the 200-year-old Langhuis, where owners Lisa and Philip Key also built an adjoining modern kitchen. The couple opened the cooking school in 2009, which in 2018 won a Food Trekking Award in the Best Cooking School/Class category. 

It offers themed cooking courses suitable for the whole family, and it’s a great environment – the kitchen is light and airy, and has a vegetable garden close by. The village of Prince Albert offers fantastic produce: lamb, olives, milk and everything in between. In the winter and summer school holidays, classes are tailored for children. 

Anytime cooking courses such as Karoo Classics or Vegetarian, led by resident Chef Alexa Wiehahn, are available to passing travellers, or you can opt for themed cooking classes, such as Karoo tapas and pastry-making or a festive Christmas course in November and December. There are also specialised courses with guest chefs such as Chris Erasmus, Nina Timm and Gordon Wright. All classes are either half or full day.
