The annual Cape Town International Kite Festival has gone virtual for 2020, and takes place from 10-31 October. A wide variety of online and offline activities will be on offer, such as competitions, kite-making workshops, interviews and more. Tickets do not have a fixed cost, but there is a recommended minimum donation of R50 per person. All proceeds go to Cape Mental Health to help provide essential free mental health services.
JOIN KITERS ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR A CAUSE
The Cape Town International Kite Festival has been hosted by Cape Mental Health since 1994, making it the oldest kiting event in Africa, as well as one of the biggest. It’s objective is to raise funds for the invaluable work that Cape Mental Health does and to promote mental wellness.To join in and be featured on the official CTKiteFest social feeds, share your photos and videos of your kite flying by tagging #HopeOnTheRise and @CTKiteFest. You’ll also receive an official certificate of your participation in Africa’s oldest kite festival.
A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT ON OFFER
Activities include competitions, kite-making workshops, interviews with kiters around the world and entertainment pieces featuring comedian Dalin Oliver, musician Jarrad Ricketts, and drag performer Manila von Teez. There’s something for everyone available, learn how to create a simple diamond kite from everyday materials; a traditional bamboo and paper Cape Swaeltjie kite or an eye-catching feather banner. There’s also a colouring-in competition for the little ones and several short kiting films to watch on the online platform.
