What to watch at The Galileo open-air cinema this month

Classic movies on Wednesdays to Sundays. Plus picnic screening at Kirstenbosch

The Galileo Open Air Cinema is back in business, screening some of the most beloved movies, from rom-com favourites and award-winning dramas to children’s classics, in gorgeous venues all around Cape Town. Plus from 11 March, 2021 until the end of April you can also experience the beloved Galileo picnic movie nights at Kirstenbosch (they were closed under level 3).

WHAT A GALILEO EXPERIENCE IS ABOUT

There are currently two types of Galileo screenings, the Drive-in and Galileo Royale. Both are outdoor screenings, which is a really special experience. The Drive-in is more cosy, because you’re in your car with your people, while the Royale experience is more exclusive. 

Food is available (halaal, vegan and vegetarian options, too) at both events, as well as beverages and popcorn. Both events have strict safety and health measures in place, plus the line-up is varied, so you’re sure to find at least one of your favourites on the list.

THE GALILEO ROYALE IS GLAMOROUS + LUXURIOUS

You’ll feel like royalty at The Galileo Royale, which takes place every Wednesday evening at one of the following exclusive locations: Suikerbossie in Hout Bay, historic and romantic Casa Labia, 5-star Radisson Blu Hotel, and The Cellars Hohenort-Hotel in the lush Constantia Valley. 

The experience includes a welcome drink, appetiser and popcorn. Food is available to order at the top-notch restaurants at each venue and there will be a full bar and coffee station, as well as a treat stand. This is a VIP experience for a limited number of people, so it’s perfect for special events.

TAKE THE WHOLE FAMILY TO THE DRIVE-IN

Take a trip down memory lane with The Galileo Drive-in nights. For this experience, you drive in with your car, reverse into a bay and set up a cosy viewing nook in the back of the vehicle. 

Pizza can be pre-ordered, but you can also pack your own snacks if you prefer, which makes it an affordable excursion for families. Drive-In nights are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
