It’s easy to see why mischu has become a local institution. It sits along one of the trendiest strips in Sea Point, with the best coffee in Cape Town (it’s won this award three times), and a fabulous bakery full of viral treats like crookies and croissant cubes. Yet it’s unpretentious and welcoming with a daily R99 brunch special.

It’s on Regent Road, which you can watch through the massive windows. Whether you’re visiting on a weekday or the weekend, mischu’s brunch special remains a steal: Avocado salsa with kale and feta on homemade sourdough, and a cappuccino, for R99 (available daily until 3pm).
The rest of the menu is reasonable too, with breakfasts starting from R66. For many regulars, the go-to is a poached egg on sourdough with veg and smashed avo or the Mediterranean sandwich. It’s filled with grilled aubergine, hummus, zaatar, tomatoes, and baby spinach and has been dubbed “the king of sandwiches” for R129.

After brunch, it’s hard to ignore the pastry display stacked with almond croissants, crookies, peanut butter cruffins, and more.
The standout is the cube-shaped croissant that comes in flavours like pistachio (the bestseller), raspberry, and chocolate and hazelnut. It’s a decadent way to end a slow breakfast, or something to take away later.
The bakery reflects owner Mikhael Bou Rjeily’s Lebanese roots, which has both Middle Eastern and French culinary traditions. That’s why you’ll also find flatbreads and halva brownies (a Middle Eastern sweet made with tahini, sugar and spices).

Most coffee shops in Cape Town would struggle to beat mischu’s streak: It’s won awards for the Best Cappuccino in South Africa, Best Cappuccino in Cape Town, and the Best Espresso in Cape Town.
Most impressive of all is that it’s won Best Coffee in Cape Town not just once, but for three years in a row.
It's the Isabella blend that has won mischu so many awards. It’s a 100% Arabica coffee with a pleasant acidity and a dark chocolate and roasted hazelnut aftertaste. Its special backstory makes mischu one of Cape Town’s most beloved coffee shops.
