Charlie King gig at Villa Pascal
Chill out in the Durbanville Hills to the melodies of this Cape Town blues crooner
Former lead singer of Diamond Back Blues Band Charlie King is performing alongside swamp guitarist Sven Blumer in one of the northern suburbs’ most intimate live music and dinner theatre venues, Villa Pascal, on Friday, 21 September 2012. As part of a drive to promote her acoustic blues album, the smoky-voiced solo artist is gigging all over Cape Town prior to heading to the Durban International Blues Festival, and this is your chance to see her up close and personal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Charlie, known in blues circles as one of the nation’s most formidable female vocalists, embarked on a solo career in 2011, and within in a week of making this bold decision, the songstress was booking gigs like a machine.
Singing from an early age, Charlie was destined for the stage. She developed her love for jazz by attending workshops and improvising with various bands, but it wasn’t until she met the Boulevard Blues Band that she broke through and shared platforms with blues legends like Piet Botha, Dan Patlansky and the Kevin Floyd Band.
