Rick’s Café Americain is not your average Sunday roast spot. At this Casablanca-themed restaurant, you dine on overnight-marinated lamb and crispy potatoes while surrounded by old movie posters and Moroccan decor. Rick’s Sunday roast special is so good, you’ll want to hang around for the Twilight Happy Hour too.

When you step into Rick’s Café Americain, you enter the world of old Hollywood glamour and timeless love affairs. Rick’s is inspired by the 1942 classic Casablanca and photos and posters from the film can be found throughout the restaurant’s three floors.
Wine-red booths line the second floor and the bright yellow walls are covered in blue decals and screens playing the film. With these rich colours and the Moroccan lanterns (including a 25-lamp chandelier), Rick’s feels like a portal to another world.

Rick’s takes roasts seriously. For their Sunday roast special, lamb is marinated overnight and slow-roasted for tenderness and flavour. Sides include roasted potato, baby marrow and carrot and a rosemary sauce. The special runs from 12pm to 3pm on Sundays.

After the roast special, head up to Rick’s rooftop bar. Housed in a 135-year-old Victorian building on Kloof Street, the third story of Rick’s is a rooftop terrace with a sweeping view of Table Mountain.

The royal blue couches and mosaic tables make it a quirky colourful spot for drinks on a Friday night. Try the Kloof Street Hurricane, which is made with tequila, rum, gin, pineapple and grapefruit. Visit during happy hour (3pm - 6pm) and get discounted cocktails and Woodstock Brewery beers on tap. Plus, there’s Twilight Happy Hour, starting at 10pm, so you can sip on cocktails all afternoon till midnight.
