Holistic food + drink at this healthy eatery by the sea

Sit under the trees and enjoy kombucha cocktails, vegan dishes + a sea view

Last updated: 23 December 2022

At this seaside eatery on the Hermanus waterfront, you can enjoy fresh and healthy plant-based meals (with some dishes catering for carnivores, of course). Make sure to stay for signature cocktails after lunch - Pear Tree serves them with a healthy twist.

RELAX UNDER THE TREES

The space embodies Pear Tree’s focus on healthy, holistic meals inspired by the wonder of plants. With a large outdoor area on the Hermanus waterfront, guests can sit between the trees while a refreshing breeze blows from the sea. True to its name, the outer walls are covered in greenery and the logo sits on a fake tree trunk.

TRY KOMBUCHA COCKTAILS

The cocktail menu is small but enticing, and most of the offerings are completely unique to Pear Tree. Try the berry or apple and cucumber kombucha cocktails, which are better for gut health than regular cocktails. There’s also the Cuban Cranberry (with summer flavours of coconut and pineapple) or the classic Mojito. Whatever you choose, your drink will match the light and fresh feel of the place.

TUCK INTO LIGHT BITES

Most of Pear Tree’s menu is made up of small plates ideal for sharing. There are abundant vegetarian and vegan options, alongside classics like hake and chips, pork belly ribs and burgers. A favourite is the tofu tostada, a crispy taco topped with marinated tofu, avo, pak choi and sweet chilli soy. The sushi calamari is a unique offering: calamari stuffed with sushi rice and salmon.

Many of the dishes are sprinkled with a nori dust, which gives the meal a deeper umami flavour. Image: Lara van Zyl
