Last Comic Standing at Beaulah Bar in Green Point

Get some mid-week laughs with up-and-coming comedians at this Green Point hotspot

Do you reckon that you have what it takes to be the next Trevor Noah? Are you a one-liner wizard, a pun-prodigy, a master at recounting satirical anecdotes? If your answered yes to these questions, then try this one on for size: can you reduce an audience to tears of laughter in under seven minutes? Give it a go at Beaulah Bar in Green Point on Thursday, 15 June 2017 at their Winter Warmup edition of Last Comic Standing. Alternatively, join in with an eager crowd ready for some giggles and gags to  get a healthy dose of funny.

All amateurs are welcome to take part in this newly-launched battle of the humourous, whether they’ve tried stand up before at their local bar or are the jester of their social circle. Competitors have a limited time slot of seven minutes to show off their comedy chops to a surprise special guest judge and the audience, all of whom will get to decide which performer emerges victorious. Various prizes will be awarded to said victor; but exactly what these will be has not been announced just yet.

The show starts at 9pm sharp and  the doors will be open from 8pm to give the viewers (and judges) time to get settled in.

Past Last Comic Standing competitions at the Beaulah Bar have seen some talented amateur comics taking the stage, such as the Joke Slam Champion of 2016, Chantal Jax Venter. It’s an evening for comedians to inspire one another and grow, and for guests to see budding talent that  they may see succeed on other local and international platforms one day.

Beaulah Bar was recently relaunched and is a popular upmarket nightclub (famous guests can be spotted here at times). It offers drinks specials on the regular, a plush VIP area and some excellent DJs play to revellers partying it up on their swanky dancefloor.

If you’d like to take part, please contact the organisers directly by sending an email to marchanejaneke@gmail.com which  includes the following: your name and information about yourself for Beaulah Bar to post on the event’s Facebook page; a photo of yourself; your contact number; and how you would like to be introduced to the audience on the night. If you have any social media links such as a Facebook page or Instagram, you are welcome to share these as a way for potential audiences to reach you.
Applications will be accepted at the latest on the morning of Friday, 2 June, after which keen comics will unfortunately have to wait for the next event by Beaulah Bar to compete. The line-up for the event will be announced later in the day on Friday.

Tickets to watch the show are available online from Quicket.co.za at R30p/p for a limited time until price goes  up to R40p/p. These tickets will also only be available for a limited time - so hold up the tomfoolery for a second and get them quick! For those who don’t manage to grab Early Bird passes, never fear, you can still buy a ticket online or at the door on the night for the cost of R50p/p.
