Taste wine in a cave

Boutique winery with 6 six cosy tasting nooks. Plus platters, picnics + trails

Last updated: Tuesday, 24 May 2022

Klein Roosboom is a 300 year old boutique winery in the heart of Durbanville Wine Valley. This secret gem offers a one-of-a-kind wine tasting experience inside caves. Plus, you can enjoy lunch, walk through the dog-friendly trails or picnics in the vineyards.

PICK YOUR TASTING NOOK

Klein Roosboom's cosy tasting caves are a quirky concept and very unique. There are 6 of these nooks, created in old concrete wine tanks with a door knocked into it. Each has a theme, including Versailles, Rouge, Hang Gat and The Kitchen.

The rooms can take up to 4 or 8 people, depending on which cave you choose. Image: Klein Roosboom

Once you’ve chosen your room, you can discover the stories of the winery’s vines and wines, and enjoy a bottle of bubbly, or any of its red or white. You can also learn the secret art of sabraging a bottle of Cap Classique.

Tastings start at R95. Image: Klein Roosboom

STAY FOR LUNCH

Klein Roosboom’s restaurant is in a magical position amongst the vineyards and offers a daily blackboard menu with freshly baked breads, pies, farm-fresh salads and other delicious dishes. You can opt for breakfast, like a shakshuka or croque madame, or a hearty lunch at the Jéan Restaurant & Deli.

The restaurant serves many hearty food options, and you can also order a platter during the wine-tasting experience. Image: Klein Roosboom

OPT FOR A COSY PICNIC

The wine farm offers a variety of activities the entire family will enjoy, including 3 pet-friendly walking trails. Jéan Deli also sells picnic fare, which you can lay out by the vines or on the lush lawns.

Picnics are self service, so no reservations are needed. Image: Klein Roosboom
