To Love or Not to Love: A Street View
Delve into the reality of ‘street couples’
Starting on Thursday, 2 February 2017 (First Thursday), Amplify Studios is opening their very first homegrown exhibition. For one of their resident photographers, Noncedo Charmaine Mathibela, ‘To Love or Not to Love: A Street View’ marks the start of a very promising career.
The exhibition will open to the public on First Thursday (Thursday, 2 February 2017) and will run until Friday, 17 March 2017. Amplify Studio is located on Loop Street and is open from 9am to 5pm daily (and 8pm on First Thursdays). Entry to the gallery is free.
‘To Love or Not to Love: A Street View’ chronicles the lives of couples living rough on the streets of Cape Town; their struggles, their joys and their dedication to their significant other. Love is the theme that links all of the photographs together, giving the audience a very relatable quality. So often in society, people are drastically exuded by ‘othering’ and this exhibit aims to humanise the part of society that most people ignore.
Noncedo Charmaine Mathibela was mentored by the incredibly well know local artist, Jenny Altschuler. Altschuler has exhibited her work all over the world in conjunction with impressive international artists.
‘To Love or Not to Love: A Street View’ is your chance to get to know, intimately, the homeless community and perhaps start to understand their struggles; emotionally, physically, mentally and financially.
