Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour
Grab your popcorn and enjoy the world’s most inspiring and thought-provoking action, adventure and mountain films at Ster-Kinekor cinemas in Cape Town
Get set to take a journey across the world with the 2016 Banff Mountain Film Festival’s series of action-packed documentaries from Friday, 21 October to Saturday, 29 October 2016. The annual fandango features the globe’s top adventure climbing, base jumping, alpine skiing and mountain expedition movies and flickers onto screens with a bigger, better extravaganza in Cape Town’s Ster-Kinekor cinemas in Cavendish Square and Tyger Valley Centre.
This year, the heart-racing, nine-day global tour makes a home in 35 countries and features the best of hundreds of short flick submissions, giving viewers a chance to experience some of the most beautiful parts of the world by watching the escapades of seasoned adventurers who head out to explore remote corners of the planet. Expect to see crazy stunts, gain insight into far-off cultures and even get a peek at some of the last great wild places left on this earth, all on the big screen.
Audiences can look out for Josh Lowell’s Reel Rock 10: A Line Across the Sky; a short film exploring the five-day long journey across the Fitz Traverse or enjoy Balloonskiing – Heimschnee by Stefan Ager, which focuses on the stunning experience of a hot air balloon ride to undiscovered locations. Choose from over ten films over the duration of the festival and see the breathtaking regions up close.
Started in 1986 as an outreach programme aimed at collecting top-notch films that showcased mountain culture and the exploits of adrenaline junkies to communities across the globe, the Banff Centre for arts and creativity in Canada has morphed into an annual worldwide tour. In 2006, two decades into the world tour’s existence, Cape Union Mart brought this international adventure film festival to South Africa for the first time, and since then the festival has gone from strength to strength.
