The Bombay Brasserie has peacocks on the wall, dramatic chandeliers, blue velvet chairs and the most sumptuous Indian dishes showcasing recipes from across that continent. Taj Cape Town’s signature fine-dining restaurant is the perfect place for that special date, and it’s running an excellent set-menu deal.

The Bombay Brasserie is named after India’s most multicultural and cosmopolitan city, and the restaurant’s menu reflects the remarkable variety offered by that country’s cuisine. Most people think that the food is about strong curries. The Bombay Brasserie, however, explores many delicate flavours in surprising dishes and tapas-style plates, from delicate mouthfuls of puri and beautifully spiced mustard-and-achar marinated broccoli florets to prawn alleppey. Every dish is so flavoursome it’s best to share them all.

The set menu offers a vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu, and each course is made up of three small plates. It starts with an exquisite amuse-bouche that is an explosion of flavours, textures and temperatures in the mouth (It’s a surprise). Both menus offer a variety of flavours and textures – 7 different dishes for each – and more good news is that the menu caters for halaal, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-intolerant clients.

It’s not only that the food is exceptional – eating here really is a culinary adventure – it’s that the atmosphere is special. The interior is sumptuous, the waiters are perfectly attentive (and knowledgeable about the excellent wine list). And why not make a night of it and stay over at the luxurious Taj Cape Town.
