Forget about the hassles of everyday life and escape to the scenic Route 62 dorpie of Montagu (about 180km from Cape Town) for the annual Breyten Breytenbach Literary Festival from Friday, 3 to Sunday, 5 July 2015. This year, the bilingual book fair celebrates literary greats with a wonderful line-up of keynote speakers and a much-anticipated show by Afrikaans singer and performer Emile Minnie.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2015 BREYTEN BREYTENBACH BOOK FAIR
GREAT TALKS: The wordy weekend boasts three days of talks from keynote speakers, book presentations and author interviews from the likes of Don Pinnock, Louise Heckl, Leslie Howard and Darryl David who will be sharing insights on Breytenbach’s work as well as their own literary creations.
ARTY ACTIVITIES: The fair is not all books though; visitors to the Klein Karoo town can also look forward to a feast of extra activities to round out the culture-filled fest. There will be a heritage and art meander that includes various art exhibitions for enthusiasts to peruse, along with historical and architectural outings and live entertainment. Not to mention, visitors can take a tour to Breytenbach’s town of birth, Bonnievale, which includes stops at the town museum and lunch at the Weltevrede Wine Estate or explore their own artistic side with a photographic and birding tour.
BREYTENBACH YOUTH LITERARY AWARDS: The Youth Literary Awards are a new addition to the festival programme and offer young aspiring writers the opportunity to get their work in front of eager readers. English and Afrikaans submissions will be accepted and authors have a chance to win awesome prizes. Visit Radfoundation.co.za for more details.
