UPDATE: Excentric Hair is not currently offering camera diagnosis consultations.

Become your own hair expert, instead of letting advertising or sexy packaging tell you what’s best for your hair. Now you can find out what your real hair concerns are with a nifty piece of technology – and get advice from some of Cape Town’s top hair stylists on what to do about them.

Excentric Hair on Kloof Street is the only hair salon in Cape Town to offer UP. You can get yours for free if you book a treatment or buy products based on the outcome of the consultation. Plus if it’s your first visit to the salon, you’ll get R100 off. Here’s what you need to know.
Essentially, it’s like looking at your hair and scalp under a microscope to see how healthy it is. (Be warned, it can look funky but it’s super interesting!)
You start the consultation at Excentric Hair by entering your personal details on the camera – which looks a bit like a cell phone – to create a profile where all the images and information from your consultation will be saved.
A hair stylist then holds the camera against different areas of your head to assess things like hair thickness, hair thinning, hair loss, blood circulation in the scalp, and how clean, clogged, sensitive, dry or oily the pores of your scalp are.
The process takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the stylist explains each image the camera captures – what it’s saying about the health of your hair and scalp – and then suggests treatment options if you need them.
A detailed camera diagnosis can reveal a lot about your hair and scalp health. Image: Excentric Hair
The detailed camera diagnosis can pick up common hair care concerns like hair loss, thinning hair, hair breakage or problems with hair growth. Based on the outcome of the consultation, you can opt to have a treatment (or various treatments) to address these concerns.
For example, if scalp health is an issue, your Excentric Hair stylist may suggest a Nioxin Scalp Dermabrasion/Exfoliation and Kerastase Scalp Scrub Treatment. This powerful little detox will remove dead skin cells, oil, dirt and dandruffl and leave your scalp squeaky clean. It’ll also stimulate the skin’s natural renewal process, which helps product actually get into your hair.
Or if the camera diagnosis reveals that your hair breaks easily, you may need a Nioxin Deep Protect Density Mask. This treatment leaves your hair stronger, more manageable and smoother, and can reduce hair breakage by 97%.
Your stylist will suggest a treatment based on the results of the camera analysis. Image: Excentric Hair
The camera diagnosis consultation at Excentric Hair costs R330, but you can get it for free when you have a treatment or buy recommended hair care products on the day of your consultation – essentially, the cost of the camera diagnosis will be deducted from the cost of your treatment or products.
Excentric Hair offers products that help with many hair issues, like dry scalp or damaged hair. Image: Excentric Hair
Tell the team at Excentric Hair if it’s your first visit to the salon – you’ll get R100 off the final cost of your service when you spend at least R300 (all services included).
You can book a camera diagnosis consultation online (you’ll get a reminder of your booking the day before) and also chat to Excentric Hair via an online chat service that links to Facebook Messenger. You can also get in touch via WhatsApp on +27 76 274 2626 and find their full contact details online.
