The much anticipated annual Riebeek Valley Go-Kart Derby is finally here. Happening at Riebeek Valley on Saturday, 25 March 2017, this much-loved four-year-old community event is back to bring you nothing but excitement surrounding the world of go-karts. The official opening will be at 9am with much fanfare and the downhill demonstrations that will commence thereafter. Demonstrations/rides will start promptly at 9am and finish at around 12:30pm.
HOW TO ENTER THE RIEBEEK VALLEY GO-KART DERBY AT RIEBEEK VALLEY
Entry fee per kart is R150p/p. Entry and indemnity forms are available on Facebook, refer to the ‘Riebeek Kasteel Go-Kart Derby’ page.
Participants need to make sure that their kart is one of the stand-outs as there will be prizes for The Most Original Kart, The Best Upcycled Kart, The Best Dressed Kart, The Best Dressed Person and much more. The focus of this event is the sense of bringing together the elements of fun and community other than the competing for which go-kart is the fastest.
Although the kart will be judged on its exterior and not its speed, it is still fundamental that the structure follows the criteria of what the kart is supposed to do, because it will still be used to take downward dashes (150m long down the Main Drag).
RULES AND SPECS FOR YOUR KART
Each kart will be checked for the following:
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2017 RIEBEEK VALLEY GO-KART DERBY AT RIEBEEK VALLEY
This year the event introduces the theme of the Great Gatsby which will create just the right amount of eclectic drama for the locals to get dressed up and participate. This will be a full-day event and all businesses and corporates are invited to come and enjoy this day. Business and companies are invited to build their own branded kart or to get the godfather of all things go-kart, Mike Hillier, to assist them in building their creation. Companies will have to book in advance for space for their company branded gazebo. What better way to boost company morale than to participate in this community activity?
Local children, who cannot afford to build and enter their own karts, will be given an opportunity to ride down on company sponsored karts provided the necessary indemnities have been signed.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR ALL GO-KART DRIVERS
Those who wish to participate in the downward dash will have to adhere to the following:
It’s definitely a day for the entire family to enjoy. With loads to eat and drink in the duration of all the festivities, this is a day not to be missed by anyone, so make sure you’re there and enjoy another year of successful and fun go-karting!
