It’s not often you get the chance to elegantly sip on a vintage wine from five-or-more years ago without paying exorbitant prices for the bottle. Wine-lovers and connoisseurs are given that rare opportunity at the fourth Simonsig Vintage Day on Saturday, 12 August 2017.
Visitors to this well-known Stellenbosch estate will be treated to a variety of carefully selected vintages from the late 1990s and 2000s, allowing guests to sample the matured vinos and purchase bottles of their preferred wine right then and there.
The estate’s 1999 Kaapse Vonkel MCC, along with other superb nectars like the iconic Redhill Pinotage will be on offer at the event. If treats like these are not enough to entice you then perhaps the fact that the 2008 Garland Cabernet Sauvignon will be available for the first time at a Vintage Day will get you hot-footing it to the venue.
All of these vintages have been kept under perfect maturation conditions in the estate’s cellars, ensuring quality wines for your ultimate enjoyment. “During the Vintage Day we literally open up our cellars, allowing visitors to taste and buy from our older stocks,” says cellar master Johan Malan. “This is a unique opportunity to experience wines that have been accorded the time to age under ideal conditions, many of which have become true gems over the passage of time,” he continues.
If you want to make the most of the day, book yourself into the master class held by Johan Malan. Attendees will learn about the selection process applied in making Simonsig’s popular wines, some of which are blends, and how to taste them
Visitors will undoubtedly work up an appetite and luckily the estate’s Cuvée Restaurant will be preparing tasty morsels such as steak ciabatta, cheese boards, oysters and hearty soups to fill your stomachs and satisfy those cravings. Live music will also ensure a lively atmosphere throughout the event.
