Looking for FREE things to do in Cape Town this summer? Who isn’t? Luckily you need to look no further than Concerts in the Park for an afternoon of music and merriment! Celebrate the beautiful summer weather with another season of free concerts at De Waal Park in Oranjezicht, one of the Mother City’s historic recreational parks.
The first concert takes place on Sunday, 17 December 2017 with Jimmy Nevis as the headlining act, supported by The Rockets. Both artists are SAMA (South African Music Awards) nominees so the show is sure to be spectacular.
What’s more, there are five more concerts happening as part of this series, which runs until Sunday, 18 March 2018. This much-loved series boasts a stellar line-up of renowned South African musicians, including The Rudimentals, Fokofpolisiekar, Freshlyground and more.
The events are orchestrated by the formally registered non-profit organisation Concerts in the Park, together with the Cape Town City Council, the Executive Mayor's Office and local businesses. These free community shows aim to not only showcase the beauty of the recreational areas in the inner city, but also to highlight the work and effort the Friends of De Waal Park organisation put into maintaining this iconic piece of public space.
For anybody looking for family-friendly activities, these park performances provide the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic basket and unwind on expansive green lawns for a live afternoon concert beneath the summer sun.
The concerts start at 3pm and attendees are urged to arrive early to get good a good view of the stage.
