“It’s a slick, quick and deliciously fine production that will keep you laughing for months” - Robyn Sassen
Starting on Thursday, 3 August 2017, The Mystery of Irma Vep opens at Theatre on the Bay for a 16 show run. Any theatre buff wouldn’t miss the opportunity to see this unique and hilarious production which stars local heartthrob, Jonathan Roxmouth.
This production is billed as a mash-up of Downton Abbey and the Twilight saga, rolled into one hilarious spoof show. The Mystery of Irma Vep was conceived and written by Charles Ludlum. The director's chair for this production is occupied by Eliza Badenhorst and the score was created by Wessel Ogentaal.
The story is set in Mandacrest, a remote manor inhabited by Lord Edgar and Lady Enid. The estate is being terrorised by a mysterious beast, and the ghost of the recently deceased Irma Vep reappearing does not seem to help matters. The story sees the characters travel from the moors of England to the Valley of the Kings, in Egypt, and back again in a hilarious production. They’ll come into contact with a variety of scary mythical creatures, on their adventures, while the audience ask themselves ‘whodunnit?’. This production becomes even more impressive when you realise that the cast consists of only two actors; Jonathan Roxmouth and Welsey Swain Lauder.
The Mystery of Irma Vep is a light-hearted comedy that showcases locally made acting perfection. The costumes will be larger than life, the character changes seamless, the dialogue witty and the set design sensational, when The Mystery of Irma Vep opens at Theatre on the Bay on Thursday, 3 August 2017. Don’t miss this golden opportunity to see some of SA’s best known theatrical personalities tackles a new genre of stage performance!
The Mystery of Irma Vep will keep you guessing (and laughing) up to the very last scene, and might just end with a big twist; but who knows what eeries turns lie waiting in this turbulent tale? Your last opportunity to see it is on Saturday, 19 August 2017 at 8pm.
