The Pixies are coming to South Africa
Where is my mind? Probably on the moon, because this news blew our heads off!
South Africa, we’ve been very lucky over the last few years. The calibre of the musical acts making the trip to our lovely country is only getting higher and higher. Coldplay, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kings of Leon, Bon Jovi and U2 have all graced stages across SA. This time around The Pixies is bringing their alt sound to the Mother City!
Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Paz Lenchantin and David Lovering will be setting foot on SA soil for the first time starting with a Cape Town staple, Kirstenbosch Sunset Concert on Thursday, 16 March 2017. Then from the Mother City they will travel up to Jozi for a music extravaganza at Carnival City. The supporting act (for both concerts) is the lekker local band Springbok Nude Girls.
The Pixies enjoy passionate levels of reverence and adulation from fans. They are loved for the soft/loud contrast in their music, stripped down basslines and angsty lyricism. Nirvana cited the Pixies as an influence and they boast a legendary discography that includes songs such as “Here Comes Your Man”, “La La Love You”, “Tame” and “There Goes My Gun”. If none of the above sound familiar, you should know The Pixies from their inclusion in the Fight Club Soundtrack. We know we are breaking the first rule, but Fight Club has become a cult-classic and ‘Where is my Mind’ is the most widely recognised song from that sensational film.
