Mischu is for all the active souls and laidback friends catching up. It’s a pit stop before you meet with your running club (it opens at 7.30am on weekends) or to catch up with friends for brunch.
With award-winning coffee and daily food specials, this down-to-earth spot in the heart of Sea Point might be your newest favourite coffee stop.

Mischu sits in one of the most popular strips of restaurants in the city. Regent Road is full of trendy cafés and coffee shops, and despite mischu’s popular location, it’s down to earth. You’ll see cyclists popping by after a workout, dog walkers getting a coffee on their way to the Promenade and families ordering a lazy Saturday breakfast.
The interior, which is bright and spacious, overlooks the bustle of Regent Road. Along with sleek black mirrors and hanging lights, the old wooden board games (like backgammon and naughts and crosses) gives the space an unpretentious feel.

There are so many places to brunch in the city. The award-winning coffee is why you should consider adding mischu to your visit list: It’s won Best Cappuccino in South Africa, Best Cappuccino and Espresso in Cape Town, and Best Coffee in Cape Town three years in a row.
This is partly thanks to the Isabella blend. With a mild pleasant acidity and a dark chocolate and roasted hazelnut aftertaste, it’s the kind of coffee you can easily drink everyday. It also has a special backstory, told by founder Mikhael “Mischu” Bou Rjeily.

Mischu’s prices defy its trendy location, with daily breakfast and lunch specials that make catching up with friends over a long brunch easy.
Smashed avo, poached egg, and veg on sourdough with a regular flat white costs R95 (daily, until 3.30pm). The warm bowls, filled with bright veggies, are on special between 11.30am and 3.30pm for R50.

It’s a hearty menu with a Mediterranean twist. The flatbread wrap with boiled egg, homemade hummus and chilli is a popular choice, as well as the gluten-free cinnamon maple granola bowl.
The homemade pastries are also a nice-sized treat to get with your coffee. Ultra-buttery and flakey croissants and pain au chocolat, filled with warm gooey chocolate, are just some of the sweet treats that you’ll find at the counter.
There are also crumbly iced biscuits, handmade by a talented baker. Image: mischu
Mischu is open: Monday to Saturday, 6:45am to 5:30pm; Sunday and public holidays, 7:30am to 5:30pm
