Bubbly Special at The Piano Bar

Make this charming musical revue haunt home on Sunday afternoons for half price glasses of MCC

As far as we’re concerned, Sundays and bubbly go together like time and tide. And it seems The Piano Bar agrees: the moody musical revue venue marries the two by capping the price of its Miss Molly Brut MCC on the proverbial day of rest, and it throws in live music and a sunny terrace too.

Based among the cobbled streets of Cape Town’s De Waterkant neighbourhood, this New York-inspired haunt is a charming place to while away a Sunday afternoon. With its smoky wooden floors and dark grey walls, it has enough swagger to make you feel surrounded by sophistication, and yet it also manages to be both unpretentious and laid-back.

The drink special runs the whole day and applies to Miss Molly Brut MCCs from the Môreson wine farm in Franschhoek, which is all citrus and pineapple on the nose.

The Piano Bar also serves a range of delicious tapas that complement bubbles well. The Oriental pork balls are a must-try, as is the salmon tartare, the lamb tacos and the crispy croquettes filled with smoked snoek, biltong or cheese. For those who want something a little larger, there are also burgers (beef, chicken, lamb and falafel), ribs and several other daily specials.

We recommend you sip on your bubbles outside on the wraparound terrace – it claims a view that stretches from Devil’s Peak to the bay – and then stay on for happy hour (a 2-for-1 deal on selected cocktails and tapas) before moving inside as sunset approaches to soak in the live tunes. Starting at 7:30pm, the music on Sunday evenings is usually low-key and laid-back, featuring a performance by a solo artist.

Either way, stay a while and enjoy – this is what Sundays were made for, after all.
